Summer 2019 – Located in front of the Sotogrande’s golf course, the cantilevered villa designed by Valencia-based studio Fran Silvestre Arquitectos merges into the landscape proposing to inhabit the shade generated between the ground floor plan and the roof. A large roof allows to stop the intense sun of Cádiz and to protect from the abundant rains of the area of the Sierra de Grazalema.

Minimalistic interiors echoes the outward-projected architecture thanks to wall-to-ceiling glass walls. “Deep inside there is a wooden body that gives privacy to the rooms and provides the desired warmth.” Says Fran Silvestre to Archipanic. “Thus, four limits appear: the plane, the shadow, the glass that allows the interior to be climatized, and finally, the wood one.”

The structural effort allows to open the space directly to the landscape without interruptions. The access is found in the upper street. From this point, the water of the roof is observed in an attempt to blur the architecture to mimic it in the natural environment.

All the materials of the house are in the same warm tone, from the natural stone floor to the wooden ceiling. The planes of the roof and the ground floor are displaced to generate a covered access and an endless swimming pool on the golf course.

At the end, the main goal is to make the lowest impact on the environment, allowing to enjoy a shade inhabited in Sotogrande.” Adds Silvestre. Indeed, from a distance, the building almost disappear.

Inspired by the architecture of Alvaro Siza and the sculptor Andreu Alfaro Spanish studio, Fran Silvestre, founder of his eponymous studio, realizes series of projects that take into account factors such as, modulation, serialization or light. The studio’s highly pure aesthetic create a constant play of volumes and void, stretch architecture to its limits making use of innovative materials and technologies.
